Arizona's Jade Carey shares what it's like to win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Carey stopped by to talk with 12News journalist Tram Mai after her amazing performance with Team USA.

PARIS, France — The United States women's gymnastics team is the talk of the town after their incredible win Tuesday in the women's team competition.

When it was all said and done, Team USA earned the gold medal. While the entire country gets to celebrate the achievement, Arizona has a special connection to the team.

Gymnast Jade Carey is from the Grand Canyon State and is one of the members of the 2024 U.S. women's gymnastics team.

Carey stopped by to talk with 12News journalist Tram Mai to discuss her gold medal win.

What does it feel like to win gold?

"It feels really, really, really special," Carey said with a smile. "Just to be part of the team and contribute last night and have so much fun doing what we love out there, so taking home a gold medal feels really special."

She added that it was amazing performing in front of such an energetic crowd.

Was it great performing in front of your family?

In Tokyo, Carey did not have her family cheering her on at the games. This year was a different story.

"That means everything to me," Carey replied talking about her family at the Paris games. "I missed them last time, so knowing they are here, being able to watch in person and supporting me from the stands... It means the world to me."

How did you celebrate?

Carey said after the competition, she and her family and friends went out to local restaurants to celebrate the team's big win.

"It was awesome to share all of my accomplishments with them," she added.

The rest of Arizona is celebrating right along with Carey and everyone can't be any prouder of the team. Way to go!
