PARIS, France — We're finishing off the first week of the 2024 Paris Olympics and we've already seen some incredible performances. From the pool to the court, athletes from across the world compete to achieve their Olympic dreams.

That dream continues Friday as several athletes with Arizona ties participate in various events.

Here's a breakdown of how these competitors performed on Aug. 2.

Léon Marchand

ASU swimmer Léon Marchand dominated another event today at the Paris Olympics, earning gold in the 200m individual medley. He captured his fourth gold medal thus far.

Regan Smith

Former ASU swimmer Regan Smith took home the silver in the women's 200m backstroke on Friday. This is her sixth Olympic medal.

Brady Ellison

Ellison and his teammate Casey Kaufhold came away with the bronze medal in mixed-team archery after defeating India.

The 35-year-old from Globe, Arizona first competed internationally with a compound bow but switched to a recurve bow when he discovered recurve was an Olympic discipline. This is Ellison's fourth medal (two silver, two bronze)

Ellison's mom, Julie Nichols, couldn't make it to Paris because of an illness but said she watched the livestream of the event.

“I cried," Nichols said, "because that's that's what I do every time he wins.”

With that medal, Ellison became the most decorated U.S. archer in Olympic history. And Ellison said he plans to keep going, already planning for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

“There aren't that many five-time Olympians," Nichols said. "There aren't that many people that are doing that and still making a podium."

If he makes it to LA, Ellison would become a six-time Olympian.

Nichols took to Instagram to celebrate her son's accomplishments.
