2024 Paris Olympics: Arizona athletes to watch on Day 5 of competition on July 31

On Wednesday, Léon Marchand is back in the pool again and looking for gold while Delaney Schnell is looking to top her Tokyo silver.

PARIS, France — Wednesday is the fifth full day of Olympic competition in Paris. Several athletes with Arizona ties are looking to make their mark in their events.

Here's a look at who to watch on Wednesday.

Keaton Jones, Swimming

Former Higley High School swimmer Keaton Jones will be taking to the water on Wednesday in the heat for the 200-meter backstroke. The semifinal for the event is later in the day if Jones qualifies.

Regan Smith, Swimming

On Wednesday, Former Sun Devil Regan Smith will swim in the heat for the 200-meter butterfly.

The semifinal for the event is later in the day if Smith qualifies.

Smith earned a silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke on Tuesday.

Delaney Schnell, Diving

Diver Delaney Schnell, along with her partner Jessica Parratto, will be going for the gold in women’s synchronized 10-meter platform diving.

Schnell earned a silver medal in the event at the Tokyo Olympics.

Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, Men's Basketball

Phoenix Suns players Devin Booker and Kevin Durant will be back on the court playing for Team USA.

The team will be up against South Sudan.

Team USA beat Serbia on July 28 with a final score of 110-84.

Jimmer Fredette, 3X3 Men's Basketball

Jimmer Fredette is best remembered for his time at Brigham Young University, but he also spent a short time with the Phoenix Suns toward the end of his professional basketball career in 2019.  

Fredette has been keeping his career alive since 2022 by playing 3x3 basketball and is now an Olympian in the event. 

Fredette and his team will take on Poland in pool play on Wednesday.

Cierra Burdick, 3X3 Men's Basketball

Former Phoenix Mercury forward Cierra Burdick has been playing 3x3 basketball for a decade, ever since she was in college. 

Burdick and team will be up against Azerbaijan in pool play on Wednesday.

Desirae Krawczyk, Women's Tennis 

Former Sun Devil Desirae Krawczyk is representing the United States in women's doubles tennis, along with Danielle Collins.

On Tuesday, Desirae Krawczyk, with Collins, defeated Greece's Despina Papamichail and Maria Sakkari, 6-1, 6-3.

Wednesday the American duo will be up against Ukraine's Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenon.

Léon Marchand, Men's Swimming  

Former ASU swimmer Léon Marchand will be swimming in two races on Wednesday after swimming in four on Tuesday.

He is going for the gold in the 200-meter butterfly and the men's 200-meter breaststroke.

Ilya Kharun, Men's Swimming

ASU sophomore Ilya Kharun, swimming for Team Canada, will be competing in the finals for the 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday. 

Bente Rogge, Women's Water Polo

ASU's Bente Rogge, competing in water polo, is representing her home country of the Netherlands in Paris.

The Dutch team will play Team Australia on Wednesday.

Blaire McDowell, Women's Water Polo

ASU'sBlaire McDowell is playing water polo in the Paris Games and represents her home country Canada.

The Canadians will be up against the Chinese team on Wednesday.

Gabi Rennie, Women's Soccer

ASU's Gabi Rennie is playing for New Zealand in the Paris Olympics.

New Zealand is set to take on host nation France on Wednesday.
