The Green Bay Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy after Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field dropped the team to 4-6-1.

Team president Mark Murphy announced the decision Sunday night.

“The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately,” Murphy wrote in a press release.

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin will take over as interim head coach. Murphy said the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

McCarthy served as the Packers head coach since 2006, winning 125 regular-season games, 10 playoff games, six division titles and Super Bowl XLV.
