Phillip Sims impresses early in camp

Chandler Harnish, Phillip Sims and Logan Thomas are all battling for essentially one roster spot, as all three vie for the third quarterback slot on the depth chart.

"I mean it's competitive. Three guys that want to make this roster. They're going to do whatever they have to to make this roster, they're going to scratch and claw," said Sims after practice Sunday.

Sims, to me at least, looks the best after two days of workouts.

He throws a good looking ball and has made some nice throws downfield.

It's been a long journey for Sims, who began his career at Alabama as one of the highest-rated recruits in the country.

He left Alabama, made a pit stop at the University of Virginia and ultimately finished his collegiate career at Winston-Salem State.

He never lost confidence in himself though.

The Cardinals brought him in for a tryout during the team's rookie minicamp and were impressed enough to offer him a contract.

Now he's taking it day by day, and making the best of his opportunity.

"Make sure you cherish every day, but know that this could be your last day if you don't take care of the business that you have to take care of," said Sims.

Sims has also had to take his life off the field day by day as well, joking that he's been essentially living out of a suitcase since college.

"I got a chance to go home and grab some clothes, I have about two weeks worth of clothes right now. If I'm here more than two weeks I'll need to find somebody with a washing machine or go to Walmart."

If Sims can keep impressing like he has early in camp, he will certainly have to go out and buy some more clothes.
