Cardinals Safety Tyrann Mathieu has been named the NFC Defensive Player for the month of November, the NFL announced Thursday.
This is Mathieu's first selection for the monthly honor. This comes in the wake of a historic, undefeated month for the Cardinals. Mathieu -- a pivotal part of this squads defense -- recorded 27 tackles (24 solo), two interceptions and five passes defensed.
The "Honey Badger" set career-high records in San Francisco last week with 13 tackles, including one for loss and and interception which was returned for a touchdown.
Mathieu is the only player in the NFL right now with at least 70 tackles and four interceptions. He is the second player in Cardinals' history to be named "Defensive Player of the Month," behind Kwamie Lassiter in 2001.
We are T-minus four weeks from wrapping up the regular season. Mathieu may just be the key to helping the Cardinals go all the way. As the old saying goes, offense wins games, defense win championships.
The Cardinals will ride their five-game winning streak right into St. Louis to play the Rams on Sunday.
Kick off is at 11:00 a.m.
