How Larry Fitzgerald 'took' his jersey number from the NFL

Larry Fitzgerald wasn't allowed to go with his first choice of jersey number, so he had to go a different direction.

PHOENIX - Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald took a little time out of his day on Wednesday to answer a few questions from fans on Twitter.

Possibly the most interesting thing to come out of his Twitter chat -- how he chose his jersey number for the Cardinals.

A fan asked why he wore No. 11.

Larry explained that he really wanted to wear No. 1, but the NFL wouldn't let him -- so he just took two of them.

No. 1 is reserved for quarterbacks in the NFL.

The NFL rules actually specify what numbers each position is allowed to choose from.

- Quarterbacks, punters, and kickers: 1-19
- Running backs: 20-49
- Wide receivers: 10-19 and 80-89
- Tight ends: 10-19 and 80-89 (or 40-49 if those ranges are taken)
- Centers: 50-59 (or 60-79 if that range is taken)
- Offensive linemen: 60-79
- Defensive linemen: 60-79 and 90-99
- Linebackers: 50-59 and 90-99
- Defensive backs: 20-49

On Wednesday, fans also learned a few items on Fitzgerald's bucket list.

Someday he hopes to play the piano, learn how to speak Spanish, and travel to outer space.
