PHOENIX — Zach Ertz is off the Cardinals. According to former teammate JJ Watt, the decision was in line with Ertz's requests.
The Arizona Cardinals Football Club announced on Thursday that Ertz, who had been the team's tight end since 2021, was released.
Watt said on Twitter (also known as X) that Ertz plans to sign with a competitor as he aims for his second Super Bowl ring.
The team also re-signed defensive lineman Ben Stille to the practice squad.
The Cardinals are currently dead last in NFC West, with a 2-10 standing this season.
