Cardinals, Mike McCarthy have reported mutual interest if Steve Wilks is fired

Could the fired Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy come to the Cardinals?

After the Arizona Cardinals play the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17, it is expected the team will fire head coach Steve Wilks. If that happens, it will begin an offseason of change and interviews. According to NBC Sports’ Peter King, there is mutual interest between the Cardinals and one potential candidate to replace Wilks.

The Mike McCarthy stuff out there is interesting. I hear he likes Arizona and would be interested in exploring the job. I heard the Cardinals have interest as well, so we’ll see, assuming Steve Wilks is one-and-done there.

McCarthy probably would make a short list for the Cardinals, considering his success with the Green Bay Packers and his work with Aaron Rodgers. The Cardinals have a young quarterback in Josh Rosen and, if they move on from Wilks, will want someone to aid in his development.

McCarthy has also been connected to the Cleveland Browns.

But nothing is going to really happen until next week.
