Cardinals draft former Saguaro High standout Byron Murphy in 2nd round

For the second straight year in the second round, the Cardinals have drafted a former Saguaro High School star.

NASHVILLE - With the 33rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, to kick off the second round, the Cardinals picked former Saguaro High School superstar and University of Washington cornerback Byron Murphy.

It's the second straight year the Cardinals have taken a former Saguaro High player in the second round after the team chose wide receiver Christian Kirk in the second round last year. Saguaro also saw two former players go back-to-back as ASU wideout N'Keal Harry was selected in at pick No. 32 Thursday night. 

In Murphy's redshirt sophomore year last season, he earned First Team All-Pac 12 and Second Team AP All-American honors.

Murphy recorded, 58 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, four interceptions and 13 pass deflections last season. He joins a Cardinals secondary that includes Patrick Peterson, D.J. Swearinger, Budda Baker and Robert Alford.
