INDIANAPOLIS — Ever since the Arizona Cardinals hired former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury, rumors have swirled about the team drafting former Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray with the top pick in the NFL Draft.
General manager Steve Keim did nothing to quiet the whispers of change Wednesday at a press availability during the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis.
When asked by 12 Sports' Cam Cox if last year's top draft pick, Josh Rosen, is the team's quarterback, Keim had this to say:
"Is Josh Rosen our quarterback? Yeah, he is right now, for sure."
The unprompted specification that Rosen, who showed flashes of NFL skill among a talent-depleted Cardinals offense last year, was the quarterback "right now" seemed to indicate that the team is at least considering making a change at the position.
As Kingsbury and his Texas Tech team prepped for their game against Murray and Oklahoma last fall, the Red Raiders' coach said in an interview that he would pick Murray if he somehow had the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.
A firing from Texas Tech, a short stint at Southern California and an offer from the Arizona Cardinals later, he finds himself in position to draft the Heisman Trophy winner.
As recently as earlier this month, it appeared Murray would not be entering the NFL after he was drafted in Major League Baseball's draft last year by the Oakland Athletics. But the two-sport athlete announced via Twitter that he would make himself available to NFL teams.
