'D-Rob will be out on the grass': Cardinals announce rookie Darius Robinson will practice after missing first 5 weeks with calf injury

TEMPE, Ariz. — A day after upsetting their division rival, the San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona Cardinals got good news as rookie defensive lineman Darius Robinson could soon make his NFL debut.

Robinson, who the team selected with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft in April, suffered a calf injury during practice on Aug. 22 and was placed on injured reserve, causing him to miss the first four weeks of the season.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced that Robinson will return to practice this week.

"D-Rob will be out on the grass this week," Gannon said Monday, adding that he wants to see Robinson "move around and play football" this week.

Robinson returning to practice means the Cardinals have three weeks to move Robinson to the active roster, which would allow him to play in games and make his NFL debut.

If the Cardinals do not activate Robinson within the next three weeks, he will be put on season-ending IR.

The former Missouri Tiger signed a four-year, $13.86 million contract with the Cardinals back in May.

The Cardinals will be back in action when they travel to play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 13. Kickoff will be at 10 a.m. Arizona time.
