PHOENIX — The Associated Press released their All-America teams on Monday, which saw two Sun Devils and a Wildcat be honored for their play on the gridiron in 2024.
Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo and Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillian were both named first-team All-Americans, while ASU wide receiver Jordyn Tyson was named a third-team All-American.
Cam Skattebo named first-team All-American
Skattebo has been the star of the season for the Sun Devils in 2024, running for 1,558 yards and 19 touchdowns, while catching 37 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns as he helped lead ASU to their first outright conference title since 1996 and a berth in the College Football Playoff, where ASU will play either Texas or Clemson in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Day.
Skattebo finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy but was not named a finalist for either the Heisman or the Doak Walker Award, which is presented annually to the top running back in the nation. That award was given to Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, who finished second in the Heisman voting.
Skattebo, who was named the MVP of the Big 12 Championship Game, was named to the All-Big 12 Football First Team, but despite being named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week a conference-leading five times, Skattebo was not named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Year. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Skattebo is the only player in the nation with more than 1,000 rushing yards and more than 500 receiving yards and is the first player nationwide to hit those statistical milestones since Stanford's Christian McCaffrey in 2015. Skattebo is the first Big 12 player ever to accomplish this feat.
Skattebo was one of two running backs to be named first-team All-Americans in 2024. The other was Jeanty.
Tetairoa McMillan named first-team All-American
This is the second All-American honor for McMillan, as the Arizona Wildcat was named a third-team All-American last season.
After staying at Arizona following the departure of former head coach Jedd Fisch after the 2023 season, McMillan was considered one of the top wide receivers in the nation coming into the 2024 season and lived up to the billing.
Despite Arizona missing out on a bowl game this year, McMillan was a star for the Wildcats as he led the Big 12 in receiving yards with 1,319 and receiving yards per game with 109.9. McMillan ranked third in the nation in both categories.
He was named First-Team All-Big 12 and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented annually to the best wide receiver in the nation and was won by Colorado's Travis Hunter.
The 6'5", 212 lbs., junior from Hawaii set Arizona records for the most receiving yards in a game — 304 — and the most touchdown catches in a game — four — this season.
McMillan is the first Arizona player to be named an All-American in back-to-back seasons since linebacker Scooby Wright II in 2013 and 2014.
Jordyn Tyson named third-team All-American
The top wide receiver for the College Football Playoff-bound Sun Devils, Tyson led ASU with 75 catches for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns in his breakout season.
Tyson was 12th in the nation in receiving yards, 19th in catches and tied for 10th in touchdowns.
Tyson ranked fourth in the Big 12 in receiving yards, sixth in catches and was tied for second in touchdowns.
The 6'1", 195 lbs., redshirt sophomore from Texas was named first-team All-Big 12 and was named the conference's Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
However, the Sun Devils will be without Tyson when they play in the Peach Bowl as he is out indefinitely after suffering an injury during the second half of ASU's 49-7 Territorial Cup victory over Arizona in November. Tyson also missed the Big 12 Championship Game.
Other notes
Former Valley Christian kicker Dominic Zvada, who now plays at Michigan, was named a second-team All-American. He was 17 of 18 on field goals this season — including all seven attempts from 50 yards or longer — with a long of 56 yards. He also converted 25 of his 26 extra-point attempts in 2024.
Former Salpointe Catholic safety Lathan Ransom, who now plays at Ohio State, was named a third-team All-American. He had 57 tackles (32 solo), six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception, a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup this season.
