GLENDALE, Ariz. — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has had a long career, as far as college football quarterbacks are concerned. The Ducks' QB made his 61st, and final, college start against Liberty in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Monday.
But how exactly was Nix able to break the record of 53 starts, which was held by former Boise State Quarterback Kellen Moore and former Texas (and Arizona Cardinals) quarterback Colt McCoy?
Nix originally signed with the Auburn Tigers as a four-star recruit out of Pinson Valley High School in Alabama. Nix comes from a football family. His dad, Patrick, played at Auburn and his grandfather, Conrad, is a legendary high school football coach in Georgia and Alabama.
Nix's first college start and win came over the Oregon Ducks in the Tigers' 2019 season opener. Nix led the Tigers to a 9-4 record his freshman season, starting all 13 games, and was named the SEC Freshman of the Year.
Nix made 11 starts in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and 10 starts for the Tigers in 2021 before an ankle injury ended his season.
Nix announced he was transferring from Auburn after the 2021 season, and due to the NCAA granting players an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic, Nix had two seasons of eligibility remaining.
In December 2021, Nix announced his transfer destination and that he was heading across the country to become an Oregon Duck.
Nix started all 13 games for Oregon in 2022, including the Holiday Bowl, where Oregon beat North Carolina.
And now in his final season, Nix is wrapping up his season with his 14th start, giving him a record 61 starts. He broke the record for most starts by a quarterback in Oregon's 38-24 win over Washington State on October 21.
