PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns introduced their two newest members today, Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro.
Dunn, selected in the first round with the 28th overall pick, envisioned this day coming.
“Hearing my name called was surreal," he said. "When I was a kid I’d dress up in a suit and would walk across the stage…I’m excited.”
The Suns picked up Ighodaro in the second round with the 40th overall pick. Ighodaro, who prepped at Desert Vista in Chandler, AZ, received the loudest reaction from those attending when asked about playing for his home team.
“I didn’t crew up a Suns fan. They weren’t very good growing up," he chuckled. "I watched a lot of Lebron and Durant. I’m a Suns fan now for sure!”
Suns GM James Jones said they were fortunate to select the two players that stood out to them during the pre-draft process.
“Things fell our way, but we had a plan…We were able to be aggressive and get the players we wanted,” Jones stated.
The Suns did get a defensive standout with Dunn who has the length and athletic ability to lockdown an opponent. And Dunn can’t wait to prove it.
“That’s the biggest thing I’m excited for," Dunn proclaimed. "Playing against the best offensive scores in the NBA.”
Many in NBA circles have tagged Ighodaro as a “steal” in this year’s draft. His versatility on both ends of the court translates well to the NBA.
“At Marquette we ran a lot of NBA-style offense," he said. "My playmaking and ball skills can be effective…I’ll lean on my experience and bring it here.”
The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will start for the Suns on July 13. The Suns will be announcing their roster soon. This could be the first look at rookies Dunn and Ighodaro.
