Has anyone ever overcome a 3-1 deficit in the World Series? Yes

So you're saying there's a chance.

PHOENIX — It's always darkest before the dawn.

And after that 11-7 loss Tuesday night in Game 4 of the 2023 World Series, things are looking downright bleak for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona is now down three games to one against the Texas Rangers and are looking elimination straight in the face. The D-backs must now win three-straight games to come away as World Series champs.

But has anyone ever come back to win the World Series after going down 3-1? Yes, but it's a pretty rare occurrence.

In 119 World Series, only six teams have won the title after being one game away from elimination. Here's the list:

  • 1925 - Pirates over Senators
  • 1958 - Yankees over Braves
  • 1968 - Tigers over Cardinals
  • 1979 - Pirates over Orioles
  • 1985 - Royals over Cardinals
  • 2016 - Cubs over Cleveland

So, like everyone says, there's still a chance.

A three-game win streak will have to begin in Game 5 with Zac Gallen taking the mound for Arizona. If the D-backs can come away with a win, the final two games will shift back to Texas.
