PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks open their season on March 28 at Chase Field against the Colorado Rockies.
And fans will see some changes in the major league experience.
“We’re expecting a lot more when it comes to attendance," said Derrick Hall. president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks. "We’ve sold more. Our single-game sales are up 30% over last year. Our new season ticket holders is up 30%."
Fans well be treated to a new audio system and lighting system with 420 energy-efficient LED lights, including color changing lights.
“Better visibility for the players and for the fans," Hall said. "Reduced energy consumption. It’s about 50% compared to the prior lighting structure that we had. Improved broadcast quality. Heightened baseball experience."
The gift shop will be loaded with new apparel, there will be heritage celebration days – and you can’t forget about the food.
Chase Field’s executive chef Stephen Tilder and his crew came up with menu items that challenge the norm.
“I try and find something that is really cool and just say, ‘how do we make it baseball?’” Tilder said.
Visit the Taste of Chase in Section 130 and you’ll find:
- XL Footlong Sonoran Style Dog:
- ½ lb. Nathan’s Footlong dog, toasted New England roll, ranch beans, smoked bacon, pico de gallo, mustard and mayo.
- Korean Pork Belly Nacho: wonton chips, pork belly bacon, gochujang spiked cheese sauce, quick kimchee, pickled red onion and scallions.
- The Millionaire Steak Sandwich: beef tenderloin, black truffle cheese sauce, cremini mushrooms and garlic aioli on brioche hoagie roll.
“We spent probably 3 or 400 hours in the kitchen up there over the last couple of months,” Tilder said.
Diamondbacks legend Luis Gonzalez said the team is eager to compete.
“Our fans are really the ones who excite us and rejuvenate us and get us to try and get us over the top,” Gonzalez said.
