PHOENIX — On Monday, MLB awards season continued as National League and American League finalists were announced for the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards and one Arizona Diamondback heard his name called for the league's top honor.
D-backs second baseman Ketel Marte was named a finalist for the NL MVP award, along with New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani.
This is just the latest honor for Marte, who had perhaps the best season of his career in 2024. Marte was also named a finalist for the Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and Hank Aaron awards.
In 2024, despite dealing with an ankle injury for much of the second half of the season, Marte had the best offensive season of his 10-year career, hitting .292 with a career-highs of 36 home runs and 95 runs batted in.
Marte also had the highest on-base-plus-slugging, or OPS, percentage among MLB second basemen at .932.
His 36-homer mark was the highest among MLB second basemen, as were his 95 RBI.
Marte was also named an All-Star for the second time in 2024.
Marte missed out on winning a Gold Glove, as Brice Turang of the Milwaukee Brewers took home the award for NL second basemen.
We'll find out on Tuesday whether or not Marte will be named a Silver Slugger, as MLB will announce the winners at 4 p.m. Arizona time. The announcement show will air on MLB Network.
The winner of the Hank Aaron Award will be announced on Thursday during the All-MLB Team show on MLB Network. Marte was also one of seven second basemen to be named a finalist for the All-MLB team.
D-backs first baseman Christian Walker, third baseman Eugenio Suárez, outfielder Corbin Carroll and designated hitter Joc Pederson were also named finalists for the All-MLB team.
The All-MLB Team show will air at 6 p.m. Arizona time on Thursday.
The winner of the NL MVP Award will be announced on Nov. 21. Ohtani is the favorite for the award.
