D-backs lose third extra-inning World Series game in team history

The Texas Rangers forced extra innings after a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Game 1 of the World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas went to extra innings after Rangers outfielder Corey Seager hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth against Arizona closer Paul Sewald.

Unfortunately, this game did not go the D-backs way as Adolís Garcia hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to win the game for Texas, 6-5.

This is the third time the D-backs have gone to extra innings in the World Series. Games 4 and 5 of the 2001 World Series both went to extras. The Yankees, however, won both of those games.

Game Four went 10 innings, but Derek Jeter ended the game with a walk-off home run to win the game 4-3.

Game Five went 12 innings before a walk-off single by Alfonso Soriano scored Chuck Knoblauch.

So now, the D-backs are 0-3 in extra-inning games in the World Series.

But, as we all know, it ended well in 2001 as the D-backs went on to win the World Series in seven games!

This was the 66th extra-inning game in World Series history, according to Baseball Almanac. The most recent was last year when Philadelphia beat Houston in 10 innings. The longest World Series game ever was in 2018 when the Dodgers beat the Red Sox in 18 innings.
