What do the D-backs need to do after the Game 3 loss?

The D-backs 3-1 loss in Game 3 doesn’t doom their chances at winning the World Series, but it does guarantee they won’t get another iconic pool celebration.

PHOENIX — Cancel the pool party. The Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 loss to the Texas Rangers in Game 3 doesn’t doom their chances at winning the World Series, but it does guarantee they won’t get another iconic pool celebration.

Arizona can no longer clinch the World Series at home. Down 2-1 in this best-of-seven series, the D-backs must do something no other team has done this postseason --- beat the Rangers at home.

Texas is a playoff record 9-0 on the road and still unbeaten when they score first in the postseason. Arizona must win at least 1 of the next 2 games to force the series back to Texas.

Hopefully the folks behind the plate will be better in Game 4. A brutal strike call likely cost D-backs their best chance at rally. The controversial strike call happened in the 9th inning with no outs by home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez. It should’ve been ball 4 to catcher Gabriel Moreno, instead it was strike 2 and Moreno would ground out just moments later.

Torey Lovullo didn’t throw the umps under the bus, but he was clearly frustrated with some of the calls (and rightfully so).

Despite putting up 16 hits and 9 runs in Game 2, the D-backs bats were dead in Game 3. Christian Walker’s base running mistake overshadows World Series standing ovation.

We (and others) asked for fans to give Walker a standing ovation to help him get out of his hitting slump --- and you followed through Arizona.

The crowd went crazy for Walker when he got to the plate for his first at-bat in the 2nd inning, and then delivered with a double.

But moments later, Walker was thrown out at the plate after running through a very late stop sign from third base coach Tony Perezchica.

When the World Series is tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 has gone on to win the series 66% of the time. Simply put --- Game 4 is a must win.

Entering the 2023 postseason, only 14 teams have ever come back to win a best-of-seven series after going down 3-1.
