PHOENIX — Kenna Rettew's shoes have gone around the world.
There's a client in Syria, clients in the NFL – even President Joe Biden has a pair.
And now, she has a pair of Kicks By Kenna headed to the World Series.
“I took logos from all the times of the Diamondbacks," she said, holding a pair of cleats painted with every possible variation of Diamondbacks symbols and colors.
"Make them cool," she said, "make them visible."
Those were her marching orders from her client, a player with the Arizona Diamondbacks. She doesn't want to say which one.
The cleats have the current Diamondbacks logo, though rimmed in old-school teal. The tongue has a purple strip down the middle and sides or handpainted snakeskin. All of it done by Rettew.
"I'm like, 'you name it, I can paint it,'" she said.
Rettew said she grew up a Diamondbacks fan coming to the stadium for games.
Now, she's a graphic design sophomore at ASU and running her business. Her Instagram shows intricate designs from all major sports, but also for clients with hobbies they want to wear proudly. One bought a plane and needed shoes to match. Others are professional athletes. One of her newer pairs is for Formula 11 racing.
But now her shoe designs are coming home. With any luck the athlete wearing Kicks by Kenna will also be holding a World Series trophy.
