PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks were one of the best offensive teams in baseball this past season and one of the team's best hitters is now a finalist for a Silver Slugger Award.

Second baseman Ketel Marte was named a finalist for the award on Monday along with Washington Nationals second baseman Luis García Jr. and Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India.

Despite dealing with an ankle injury during the second half of the season, Marte had the best offensive season of his 10-year career, hitting .292 with a career-high 36 home runs and 95 runs batted in, which was also a career-high.

Marte's on-base-plus-slugging, or OPS, percentage of .932 was the highest in Major League Baseball among second basemen. The next closest was Houston's Jose Altuve, who had an OPS of .789. His 36 home runs were the most for an MLB second baseman, 13 more than Texas' Marcus Semien, who finished second in that category. Marte's 95 RBI also led MLB second basemen and was 21 more than Semien in second.

Marte's batting average was the second-highest among MLB second basemen, his 93 runs scored was third and his 147 hits were tied for fifth.

The Diamondbacks were also named as a finalist for the NL Offensive Team of the Year Award, along with their NL West rival and the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The D-backs led MLB with 886 runs scored, an average of 5.47 runs per game. That was 44 runs ahead of the Dodgers. The D-backs also led MLB with 845 RBI, 30 ahead of the Dodgers.

The New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles were the finalists for the AL Offensive Team of the Year.

The Silver Slugger Award winners will be announced on Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. Arizona time on MLB Network.
