D-backs game against Phillies a disastrous start for the hometown kid Zac Gallen

Game 1 of the National League Championship Series was Monday in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Coming in, D-backs ace Zac Gallen warned us – everyone in the Phillies lineup has the ability to go the distance.

We learned that tough lesson just five pitches into the game.

Right away, the D-backs were in a 2-0 hole after two home runs and the crowd was going crazy.

Gallen gave up 3 home runs in a first game. It's only the third time in his career that this has happened. And all of Gallen’s mistakes where right down the middle of the plate.

The D-backs are facing adversity for the first time this postseason. It's their first playoff loss, but like we’ve seen all year, they’re in it until the end.

Third baseman Evan Longoria said it best, “it’s a good thing to get punched in the face early in a series and answer back.”

That might as well be the team's motto by now. It's not the first time they've weathered the storm.

After Geraldo Perdomo’s clutch 2-run bomb, the D-backs brought back some runs of their own in the 6th and 7th innings, but couldn't cinch the win.

Despite the colossal crowd and early loss, the D-backs aren't shell-shocked.

"We’re not worried about the environment, we just have to play our game," Gallen said.

Let's see they can hang in there with the Phillies. Game 2 is Tuesday evening. First pitch is at 5:07 with Merrill Kelly on the mound.
