FORT WORTH, Texas — Cam Caminiti, welcome to Major League Baseball!
The left-handed pitcher out of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Caminiti was named the Gatorade baseball Player of the Year in Arizona after helping lead the Sabercats to their first state championship since 2011.
Caminiti went 9-0 this past spring with a 0.93 ERA. He struck out 119 batters in just 52 2/3 innings.
He was one of just two high school players to be named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watchlist. The Golden Spikes Award is given each year to the best amateur baseball player in the nation. University of Georgia Third Baseman Charlie Condon, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies with the No. 3 overall pick, won the award.

As a recent high school graduate, Caminiti now has a decision to make. Will he go pro or go to college?
Caminiti can decline to sign with Braves. If he does, the LSU commit will head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to play for the Tigers and will be eligible to be drafted again in 2027.
Caminiti is the cousin of three-time MLB All-Star and 1996 MLB MVP Ken Caminiti, who tragically passed away from an overdose in 2004.
The 6'2", 195 lb. southpaw was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft.
