SAN FRANCISCO, California — San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was discharged Sunday from the hospital after being shot in the chest during an attempted robbery, the team said.

Around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Geary Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square to the report of a shooting, according to a news release from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).

Upon arrival, officers said they located two males suffering from injuries. Law enforcement said a 17-year-old boy from Tracy allegedly attempted to rob Pearsall, and after a struggle both suspect and victim were shot.

Pearsall, 23, sustained a bullet wound to the chest, the 49ers said in a statement. The teen is reportedly in stable condition.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed said police were on scene immediately, and the shooter was arrested.

“The suspect is in custody and charges are pending at this time,” the department said.

San Francisco police said there is an active investigation into the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD tip line at 1-415-575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.

Tipsters may remain anonymous, according to law enforcement.

Pearsall, a wide receiver, was drafted on April 25 in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the 49ers after playing for the University of Florida.

“(Pearsall) and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the NFL said in its statement Sunday.
