Every detail counts as crews paint the field for Sun Devils game airing on ESPN

The Devils haven't played an SEC team since Texas A&M in 2015.

TEMPE, Ariz. — It's almost time for game two of the ASU football season. The Devils were strong out of the gate with a major win over Wyoming. Now, the new Big 12 team takes on an SEC team for the first time since 2015.

Ground crews at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe are preparing for the highly anticipated matchup. Josh Lenz with ASU Athletics said it's a multi-day task that changes from game to game. This week is slightly different as ASU will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

"We're doing a lot of colors today, everything we did ahead of time with measuring and lines allows us to come through and fill in the logos pretty smoothly," Lenz said.

Lenz and his team of almost two dozen people design every emblem and carefully make sure each detail is done right. From the 50-yard line to the endzone, every blade is bright with ASU colors.

"I typically put a team on each color, and we make sure there's very few if any, imperfections so that everything looks clean come game time," he added.

While most of the logos are stencils, Lenz loves the free-hand option and said even though they went with the traditional layout for this weekend's match-up, the game will be anything but.

The Devils haven't faced off with an SEC team since Texas A&M in 2015. Now though, with the stage set and fans in the stands like the spirited students from the 942 Crew, the Sun Devils are bound to bring the heat.

The 942 Crew will fill roughly 12,000 seats in the student section and thanks to Someburros, those who stay will get some grub!

Either way, fans are ready to cheer on the athletes leaving everything, including the paint, on the field.

If you want to see the final product, be sure to catch the ASU game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
