Top prospect hosts basketball camp for Valley kids

This Week Koa Peat, one of the top basketball players in the country, hosted a basketball camp for local kids.

GILBERT, Ariz. — One of the top basketball players in the country is from right here in the Valley.

Perry High School's Koa Peat likes to give back to the community. This week Peat hosted his first skills camp at Inspire Courts in Gilbert.

More than 100 kids came out for the free event. They got to learn from one of the most accomplished hoopers in Arizona high school history.

"It’s crazy how much of a platform I have at such a young age and having kids that look up to me and that’s kind of the reason why I do it," said Peat.

Peat's been raised in a family of athletes who have always given back to their community.

"That’s how I was raised," said Peat. "My family around me, they always gave back when I was younger and coming up so giving back now to the community and the kids while I’m still a kid is big for me."

Peat is getting ready to head to Turkey with Team USA's U-17 team for the FIBA World Cup.

The 17-year-old was also USA Basketball's 2023 Male Athlete of the Year.
