LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — As a kid, the minute you put on a Little League uniform, the daydreams begin. From practices to games, kids imagine themselves as their favorite big leaguer.
Diving in the hole at shortstop to save a run or stepping up to the plate to hit the game-winning homer, it's easy to fall in love with the sport. And for those who experience the life of Little League, there's no bigger dream than making it to the Little League World Series.
Litchfield Park coach Jason Gibbs and his team, that dream is a couple of wins away from reality.
The team from the West Valley is playing in the Little League West Region tournament in San Bernardino, California and the World Series is within reach.
"This run has been incredible," Gibbs said."It's been amazing."
He was all smiles talking about his club and the clutch performances they had, especially the bottom of the order.
"It kind of like a dream for these boys," Gibbs stated. "These boys, being on ESPN, they've watched it two or three times."
Gibbs went on to say the support of the players' families has made the team special. All of the work the players, coaches and parents have put in has contributed to their success.
This is the first time Litchfield Park has made it to the West Region, according to Gibbs.
"To get to the big show, to get to Williamsport, it'd mean a lot," he proclaimed. "It would be amazing."
Litchfield Park's next game is Wednesday at 3 p.m. For a full schedule, visit the Little League website.
