TEMPE, Ariz — Arizona State quarterback Trenton Bourguet ran onto Frank Kush Field at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe for the final time as a player last Saturday when the Sun Devils beat BYU.
The Tucson product is now preparing for his final Territorial Cup at Arizona Stadium with a bowl game appearance on the horizon.
During his six years at ASU, Bourguet went from a walk-on to a starter while solidifying himself as a Sun Devil for Life and a fan favorite.
12News first introduced you to Bourguet back in 2015 when he was a freshman at Marana High School competing in the NFL Flag Football National Championships in Phoenix with his team, Tucson Turf Elite.
Bourguet and his Marana Tigers went on to be featured on Friday Night Fever, but since 2019 he's been repping the maroon and gold as an ASU student-athlete.
Now, Bourguet is getting ready to turn his attention to the next chapter of his football life: coaching. Kenny Dillingham got his start in coaching when he was a teenager at Chapparal High School in Scottsdale and the second-year head coach sees a bright future ahead for Trenton.
"I think Trenton is going to be a phenomenal coach in the next chapter of his life. He already is," Dillingham said. "He's been on the 7-on-7 circuit dicing people up left and right and when we have our games out there when we have our younger guys scrimmage, he calls the plays for us so we're already getting him involved and I'm just blessed to have him apart of the program."
Bourguet is the oldest of six siblings. He is teammates with his brother, Coben, and their brother, Treyson, plays at BYU, which made ASU's homecoming win over the Cougars all the more meaningful for their parents, Vanessa and Toby.
The Bourguets are a football family through and through. Toby says Trenton has been a leader since he was little and that's been reflected throughout his career as a quarterback. He's one of the few "Door-to-Door Devils" in all of ASU Athletics, avoiding the transfer portal throughout his collegiate career and standing ten toes down in Tempe during some tumultuous times for the football program. Although Trenton spent most of his time in the backup role, his leadership and contributions have been invaluable to the Sun Devil football program.
"Trenton's a great leader. Voted on the [Pat Tillman] Leadership Council again. He was a captain for the game last week. I made him a captain just because of what he's done for this program," Dillingham said. "I think it was important for people to see him step out on the field on Senior Night and go be a part of the coin toss for what he's done for the program and what he's done for the community."
