Friday Night Fever Week 7 highlights

This week saw a battle between the top teams in 2A in our Game of the Week and much, much more.

PHOENIX — Week 7 of the 35th season of Friday Night Fever, Arizona's No. 1 and longest-running high school football show, took place on gridirons all over Arizona on Thursday and Friday night. 

This week saw a battle between the top teams in 2A in our Game of the Week and much, much more. 

Now, let's jump right in and take a look at all of the highlights from Week 7 of FNF, starting with our Game of the Week! 

Game of the Week: Santa Cruz Valley (7-1) at San Tan Charter (7-0)

A battle of the undefeated! The top two teams in 2A,  San Tan Charter and Santa Cruz Valley, went head-to-head Friday night. The Roadrunners, with ASU commit Uriah Neloms, were up 14-0 at the half. But the Dust Devils came back to make it a one-score game. The Roadrunners responded with their own 50-yard touchdown to make it 20-7. San Tan Charter went on to win 24-15.

Cactus Shadows (#12) falls to Desert Mountain (#2) in double OT

One of the season's best games happened tonight as Desert Mountain hosted Cactus Shadows. The Falcons came back from down 14 points in the second half to tie it up 21-21. The game headed to overtime with Cactus Shadows getting the ball first and a touchdown to put them up 28-21. Desert Mountain responded to tie it 28-28. 

And we head to double overtime!

Desert Mountain scores and an incomplete pass from Cactus Shadows ends the game. Desert Mountain wins 35-28.

Higley (4-2) falls to ALA Gilbert North (5-1) 

The Eagles scored first as ALA Gilbert hosted the Higley Knights. The Knights came back with a 15-yard touchdown to make it a three-point game at halftime. ALA Gilbert North took the win, 16-14. 

Basha (6-1) beats Hamilton (5-1) 35-20

It was a Friday night showdown between Basha and Hamilton. Basha went on to win 35-20.

Casteel (4-2) beats Perry (4-2) in wild game 40-37

QUADRUPLE OVERTIME! Teams were trading field goal after field goal. The game-winning touchdown from Paul Palmer to Riley Hunt ended the extra-long game with Casteel winning 40-37.

Horizon (5-1) outscores Notre Dame Prep (4-2) with 20-7 win

Horizon got their offense going for a 52-yard touchdown and Notre Dame Prep just couldn't catch up. Horizon took the win 20-7. 

Liberty (5-1) beats Pinnacle (4-3) 32-29

Both teams were looking for win #5 this week as Liberty hosted Pinnacle. A 55-yard touchdown pass put Liberty up 7-0 in the first. Liberty hangs on to win 32-29

Fever Flyover- Washington at Deer Valley, Glendale at Greenway

Deer Valley (7-0) stays undefeated after beating Washington (3-3) 42-3

Deer Valley rolled through Week 6 undefeated as they hosted Washington... and did not blemish their perfect record. It is tough to stop the Skyhawks right now. Deer Valley wins big 42-3.

Greenway comes out on top over Glendale 28-7

Greenway was up 14-0 in the first half when a 73-yard touchdown made it a 3-score lead. The Demons kept up the pace to pick up the win 28-7 over the Cardinals. 

Snowflake (6-0) takes the win at Poston Butte (2-5) 31-20

Poston Butte hosted the #1 team in 4A, Snowflake.  The Broncos were up early 12-6 but then the Lobos offense woke up and started scoring in bunches. Snowflake takes the win, 31-20. 

Yuma Catholic (6-1) beats Thunderbird (6-1) 45-14

It was a top-five matchup in 4A as Thunderbird hosted Yuma Catholic. The Titans had a rough day but some great catches. Yuma Catholic took the win 45-14.

On the road: Checking in with Vista Grande

Time to go on the road with Lina Washington to Casa Grande! The Spartans hosted the Rincon/University Rangers out of Tucson. Vista Grande wins 49-0 for homecoming.

Week 7 Sweet Plays of the Week 

And finally, we revealed the nominees for the Week 7 Sweet Plays of the Week!  

As a reminder, each week three plays will be nominated to become the Sweet Play of the Week and will be voted on by you, the fans. 

Each weekly winner will be eligible to become the Sweet Play of the Year, with the player in the winning play at the end of the season taking home a $5,000 scholarship, courtesy of Sweet James Accident Attorneys.
