4A high school football playoffs: Here are the teams that are heading to the quarterfinals

The playoffs began Friday in Arizona's big-school conferences (4A, 5A and 6A). Here's a look at the matchups in the 4A quarterfinals.

Here's a look at the initial bracket for the 4A playoffs, which was released by the AIA on Nov. 9, 2024.

PHOENIX — The playoffs are upon us here on the 35th season of Friday Night Fever, Arizona's No. 1 and longest-running high school football show!  

The playoffs have now begun in all of the high school football conferences in Arizona — 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A — and will begin in the Open Division next week. 

In this article, we'll take a look at the results from the first round of the 4A playoffs and preview the matchups for the quarterfinals. 

4A Playoffs First Round Results

  • No. 1 Yuma Catholic defeated No. 16 Combs, 35-0
  • No. 2 AZ College Prep defeated No. 15 Estrella Foothills, 37-14
  • No. 3 Snowflake defeated No. 14 Canyon Del Oro, 59-6
  • No. 4 Mica Mountain defeated No. 13 Coconino, 45-10
  • No. 5 Thunderbird defeated No. 12 Bradshaw Mountain, 49-20
  • No. 6 Prescott defeated No. 11 Vista Grande, 42-20
  • No. 7 Arcadia defeated No. 10 Seton Catholic Prep, 34-30 
  • No. 9 Walden Grove upset No. 8 Northwest Christian, 30-20 

4A Playoffs Quarterfinal Matchups

  • No. 1 Yuma Catholic vs. No. 9 Walden Grove 
  • No. 2 AZ College Prep vs. No. 7 Arcadia
  • No. 3 Snowflake vs. No. 6 Prescott
  • No. 4 Mica Mountain vs. No. 5 Thunderbird

The four quarterfinal games will be played on Friday, Nov. 22 and each game will be hosted by the higher-seeded school. 

The 4A State Championship Game will be played at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at Arizona State University's Mountain America Stadium in Tempe. 

There will be a new state champion in 4A this year as last year's champion, Canyon Del Oro, lost Friday night in the first round.
