SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — This is the first year the new DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale is open during the WM Phoenix Open.
“We are sitting right where you would enter at the old entrance,” shared TPC Scottsdale General Manager Brad Williams.
The new restaurant, lounge, patio and sportsbook sits quite literally where golf spectators used to enter the People’s Open.
“We’ve got 32 mobile kiosks that anyone can place a bet at. We also have six over-the-counter stations to place larger bets at,” said Williams.
The kiosks are a great way to learn about sports betting if you’ve never done it because you can explore it at your own pace. As hundreds of thousands of people are visiting Scottsdale this week, DraftKings said they notice huge sporting events help to drive interest.
“Big events certainly do drive wagering,” said Johnny Avello, DraftKings Director of Race and Sports Operations.
The month of February also appears to boost betting interest for Arizonans and people visiting the state.
The Arizona Department of Gaming said sports betting in Arizona grew by nearly 24 percent when comparing February 2023 to February 2022. It’s worth noting last year the Phoenix area not only hosted the WM Phoenix Open but also Super Bowl 57 in Glendale during the same week.
The convenience of mobile betting which you can access right from your phone also helps to increase its popularity.
“It’s exciting to watch and bet, and I think that's the explosion. People now have found all the amenities that are on the app,” said Avello.
If you visit to check out the sportsbook, you will find options to place bets on any sport, including Gaelic Football and ping pong, but you can also play the odds on entertainment. You can also wager on award shows like the Academy Awards.
This weekend during the WM Phoenix Open and the Super Bowl in nearby Las Vegas, many of the events at DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale are ticketed. You can check the availability online, but organizers also say you can always check at the door.
There will also be a beer garden and a huge T.V. screen set up in their parking lot which is located off of Hayden and Bell roads. The patio overlooks the new permanent entrance and walkway into the People’s Open.
“If you're a people watcher there's nothing better,” shared Avello.
