GILBERT, Ariz. — The field is finalized for the "2024 Ford Championship" presented by KCC. The lineup includes the top five players in the world, dozens of Olympians, and plenty of locals from right here in Arizona.
Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert is playing host to these world-class athletes.
Plus, there's plenty for fans to do during this multi-day day competition. It all started right in the community by kicking off the activities at Ohso Brewery in Gilbert. Then for golf enthusiasts, there's a nine-hole mini-golf challenge.
12News spoke to Jodi Ewart Shadoff, who has been on tour for 14 years, and even though she’s from Great Britain, she loves desert golf.
"I went to college in New Mexico, so I know desert golf and I love desert golf," she said.
Athletes like Ewart Shadoff are playing for a total purse of $2.25 million. Among the competitors is undoubtedly stiff competition, including number one player, Lilia Vu, future Hall of Famer Lydia Ko and many decorated Olympians.
"It’s a lot of fun and great to see all the young kids out here, so come out and get some autographs and enjoy the weather," she added.
Plus, it's a family affair with nine LPGA moms on tour including Lindsey Weaver-Wright, who is making her first start since giving birth. Fans can sharpen their short game at the LPGA lesson zone and snap a photo in the fan booth with friends and family.
