TEMPE, Ariz. — For the sixth time in program history, the Arizona State Sun Devils men's basketball team will get to spend Thanksgiving in Hawaii after being selected to play in the 2025 Maui Invitational.
Next year will be the first time since 2007 that the Sun Devils will play in the prestigious early-season tournament, which will take place at the Lahaina Civic Center from Nov. 24-26, 2025.
Joining the Sun Devils in Maui next year will be North Carolina State (who advanced to the Final Four in Phoenix last season), Seton Hall, Texas, UNLV, USC, Washington State and Chaminade, which hosts the tournament.
ASU has played in Maui five other times — in 1991, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2007 — and has an all-time record of 9-6. ASU won the Maui Invitational in 1994 when the team was led by storied head coach Bill Frieder.
The Maui Invitational has been played annually since 1984 and normally features some of the top teams in the nation. The 2024 field includes two-time defending champion UConn, Memphis, Colorado, Michigan State, Auburn, Iowa State, Dayton and North Carolina. All of those teams, except for Memphis, made the NCAA Tournament last year.
ASU will open the 2024 season on Tuesday when they host Idaho State at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
