'Skat' out vs. UCF: Arizona State star running back to miss game due to shoulder injury

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona State Sun Devils will be missing one of their top players when they take on Central Florida on Saturday at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe.

Star running back Cam Skattebo will miss the game due to a shoulder sprain that he suffered in last week's win over Oklahoma State, where he had 274 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns, earning him the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

247Sports' Brandon Marcello was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed by ESPN's Pete Thamel

This comes days after ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham said Skattebo was "doubtful to questionable" for Saturday's game during his weekly press conference on Monday.

Skattebo, who is in his senior season, is the nation's seventh-leading rusher with 1,001 yards this season. He is averaging 125.1 yards per game and has scored 11 touchdowns on the ground. He has added 404 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns to that total.

In Skattebo's place, the Sun Devils will likely turn to sophomore Kyson Brown and senior DeCarlos Brooks.

Brown has 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season. The bulk of that came in last week's game against OSU, where he ran for 63 yards and scored both of his touchdowns.

Brooks has 121 yards this season and has scored one touchdown, which came in the season opener against Wyoming.

This will be the second time this season the Sun Devils will be missing one of the core players in their backfield. Quarterback Sam Leavitt missed the Sun Devils' game against Cincinnati on Oct. 19, which ASU lost 24-14.

Kickoff for Saturday's game, which is ASU's first home game in a month, is scheduled for 5 p.m. Arizona time.
