Former Arizona State quarterback Brady White returns to Tempe as a coach

White, who played at ASU from 2015-17 before transferring to Memphis, is returning to the Valley as a graduate assistant

TEMPE, Ariz. — Former Arizona State quarterback Brady White is returning to Tempe and joining head coach Kenny Dillingham's staff, according to a social media post from White on Sunday.

"Super excited to be heading back to the desert and joining the (ASU Football) coaching staff," White said on X (formerly known as Twitter). "Extremely grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to get to work."

White's role on the staff has not been announced, but is expected to be as a graduate assistant working with wide receivers, according to Sun Devil Source's Chris Karpman

He came to ASU as a four-star recruit in 2015 and was one of the top 10 high school quarterbacks in the nation out of Hart High School in California.

White took part in a heated battle in 2016 with Manny Wilkins, Bryce Perkins and Dillon Sterling-Cole to see who would take over for Mike Bercovici as ASU's starting quarterback after Bercovici graduated and turned pro.

Wilkins ended up winning the battle, and White would not play until later that season when he had his lone start for ASU after Wilkins went down with an injury to his left leg.

However, in that start against UCLA, White hurt his right leg when he was sacked by Kenny Young and had to leave the game, which ASU won 23-20, in the fourth quarter. That injury ended up being season-ending.

White only appeared in one game for ASU in the 2017 season before going to Memphis as a graduate transfer. White threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns in his ASU career.

In three seasons with the Tigers, two of which were played for former ASU offensive coordinator and deputy head coach Mike Norvell before Norvell left for Florida State, White threw for 10,690 yards and 90 touchdowns. In 2019, he led Memphis to the best record in program history (12-2) and a berth in the Cotton Bowl, which Memphis lost to Penn State. He ended up leading the Tigers to three straight bowl games and was named the MVP of the 2020 Montgomery Bowl.

Dillingham was Memphis' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2018 and coached White.

In 2020, White won the Campbell Trophy as the nation's top scholar-athlete and was a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors college football players for work in their communities.

White went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft and played in the USFL for the Tampa Bay Bandits in 2022.

He spent the 2022 college football season at Memphis as a graduate assistant before returning to the USFL in 2023 and playing for the Memphis Showboats where he threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns.
