GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Cardinals have secured star running back David Johnson for at least the next four seasons, the team announced Saturday.
According to Adam Schefter, the three-year extension is worth $39 million, with a chance to reach $45 million in incentives. The deal guarantees $30 million for Johnson.
The extension comes just one day before the Cardinals begin their season against the Washington Redskins at home.
The Cardinals drafted Johnson in 2015 out of Northern Iowa with the 86th overall pick.
In Johnson's first three seasons, he rushed for 1,843 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also had eight touchdowns with 1,403 yards on 122 catches.
Johnson missed nearly the entire 2017 season after a wrist injury put him on the injured reserve in week one.
In the 2016 season, Johnson was named first-team All Pro and was selected to go to the Pro Bowl.
