PHOENIX — The Suns and the Nuggets played a great game Wednesday night, no questions there. But a lot of fans are still asking one big question... What's the deal with the 5280 everywhere?
The distinctive number showed up on jerseys, apparel and even the Nuggets' own court. At first glance, it looks like a totally random number. What does 5280 have to do with basketball?
Well, that's where the game was played! Denver, the "Mile High City" sits at exactly one mile above sea level — 5,280 feet. The Nuggets have always been based in Denver and the team has a deep connection to their home city. With how much pride resident's take in their lofty geography, 5280 is the perfect way to give a little love back to their city.
Kind of like how almost every Phoenix sports team has some reference to how insanely hot Arizona is!
The team claims that the 5280/300 stands for elevation 5,280 feet and 300 days of sunshine but... Sorry guys, we have you beat on the court and in the forecast!
Teasing aside, that 5280 is a great way to show the team's unshakeable bond with the Mile High City.
