TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 4 quarterback in the country, Jayden Daniels (San Bernadino, California) committed to Arizona State Thursday over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, USC and nearly 20 other schools he had offers from.

His final four was between ASU, UCLA, Cal and Utah.

Daniels comes from Cajon High School in San Bernadino as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the country for the 2019 class. The four-star prospect and No. 82 overall recruit in the country, according to 247Sports, threw 60 touchdown passes in 14 games this season.

This included more than 4,500 passing yards and an average completion percentage above 70. Furthermore, the 6-foot-3 lightweight QB rushed for more than 1,500 yards (averaging 100+ yards per game) and had 16 more touchdowns on the ground.

Herm Edwards already has a couple of big wins in his first year at Arizona State, including an upset win over a ranked Michigan State team in September and a comeback win in his first game against in-state rival Arizona. Put this one right up there with those.

Daniels is the best recruit Edwards has nabbed so far, and the only ASU committed player in the top 200-ranked players nationally, according to 247Sports.

ASU already has two other quarterbacks in this recruiting class. Daniels joins Joey Yellen, a 6-foot-2 pro-style quarterback from Mission Viejo and Ethan Long, a 6-foot-2 pro-style QB from Oregon.

Yellen is ranked as the 22nd quarterback in the 2019 class and Long is ranked No. 35, according to 247Sports.

ASU is the only school to have three top 35 quarterbacks committed for 2019, according to 247Sports.

It's an opportune time for young quarterbacks to join ASU with senior quarterback Manny Wilkins done after the bowl game due to graduation.

Herm Edwards has big shoes to fill after Wilkins threw for nearly 20 touchdowns each of the last two seasons for the Sun Devils and was a vocal leader for the team over the past three years as a starter.

Daniels will be competing for the starting spot at ASU as a true freshman along with Yellen, Long, redshirt sophomore Dillon Sterling-Cole, walk-on redshirt sophomore Kurt Walding and redshirt freshman and former 4-star Ryan Kelley.

Prepare for a good ol' fashioned quarterback battle facilitated by Herm Edwards come spring practices for the Sun Devils.
