GILBERT, Ariz.- New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Andrus Peat was in Gilbert this week to host a youth camp at the Boys and Girls Club.
The former Corona del Sol Aztec went on to play collegiately at Stanford before getting drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by New Orleans.
The kids at Peat's camp had plenty of fun but were also taught a valuable lesson, what you do in the classroom is more important than what you do on the field.
"My dad always stressed academics," said Peat. "Not everyone can make it professionally but that Stanford degree, going to a great school can carry you through life."
Academics helped Peat get to the highest level of his sport.
Now he's passing on that message to the next generation.
