PHOENIX - In what is being called a done deal now by Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania, the Suns have traded 33-year-old forward Trevor Ariza to Washington for point guard Austin Rivers and small forward Kelly Oubre Jr.
In case you missed it, the killed trade Friday night between the Suns, Wizards and Grizzlies was the talk of the NBA when there was confusion about whether the Suns would be getting Dillon or MarShon Brooks from the Grizzlies.
Just 45 minutes after that trade was first reported, it was canceled and the Grizzlies were out.
But, the Suns and Wizards were still interested in making a deal and eventually got it done Saturday morning.
And from the looks of it, the Suns are fortunate to get this deal rather than the one from the night before.
Phoenix got both a starting point guard, most likely, and potentially a starting small forward here and they're both young.
Austin Rivers is a 26-year-old point guard who played for Duke in college and is the son of Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers.
In a backup role to John Wall, Rivers is averaging 7 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds in 23 minutes per game this season.
The 2017-18 season was the best of his career when he averaged 33 minutes per game with the Clippers scoring 15 points and dishing out 4 assists per contest.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is just 23 years old. The 6-foot-7 small forward, a first round pick out of Kansas in 2015, is averaging 13 points and 4 rebounds per game this year off the bench.
The Suns got two potentially key players here in return for Ariza, who they signed this summer on a one-year, $15 million deal.
The veteran forward was averaging just 10 points per game for the Suns and having his worst shooting year in his 17-year career at 38 percent from the field.
