Here are 5 delicious foods to celebrate Mexican Independence Day: 

1. Chiles en Nogada

 

This dish is popular during the month of August and September. It originated in Puebla, Mexico and is known as a patriotic dish due to the color of the ingredients -- green, white and red -- the colors of the Mexican flag. 

2. Queso Fundido (melted cheese) 

 

It is a classic Mexican appetizer with melted cheese and other ingredients of your choice. Make sure to serve with some tortilla chips, you won't regret it. 

3. Tostadas 

 

Tostada means "toasted" in Spanish. It is usually a fried corn tortilla topped with beans, salsa, shredded cheese and a meat of your choice. It is very popular in Mexico and other parts of Lain America. 

4. Sopes

 

Sope is fried masa (corn dough) shaped as a small bowl. The appetizer originated from central and southern parts of Mexico and were first known as pellizcadas. It is usually topped with beans, onions, lettuce, sour cream and your choice of meat. 

5. Mole poblano 

 

Mole is usually popular around holidays and festivities. It a is a a think Mexican chili sauce with a combination of three dried chili peppers, Mexican chocolate and ground nuts. The sauce is usually added to chicken.
