'Top Gun' actress McGillis assaulted in NC home

Actress Kelly McGillis, most known for her leading role in 1986's "Top Gun," was attacked last week at her Henderson County home, according to a series of Facebook posts.

In the post written by the actress the next day, McGillis wrote that she arrived home around 9 p.m. June 17 after attending a lecture by theologian Robin Meyers.

"When I arrived home on top of my mountain, I noticed the downstairs bathroom light was on," McGillis explained. "You can see it from the street. I didn't recall leaving it on, but I was in there before I left, brushing my teeth — so I thought maybe I'd left it on. There weren't any cars around."

Before going inside, McGillis walked around her property, collecting bird feeders to discourage any bears. When she arrived at the front door and inserted her key into the lock, she found her home was already unlocked.

"I thought it was strange, but I made up the story that maybe I had left it unlocked, just as I had left the bathroom light on," she wrote on social media.

But something else was off: In her inside entryway, she noticed a pair of girls' pink sandals and a larger pair of black sandals.

"I thought that maybe one of (my) daughters was here, because one of them has a key," she said. She "called out hello several times."

That's when a female stranger ran down McGillis' hallway "and began yelling at me," the post reads.

The woman allegedly told McGillis that she should know why she was there: "You've been stalking me (on) Twitter," the actress recalled the woman saying, which she denied.

The Henderson County resident quickly scrambled back outside and called 911, thinking the woman — or anyone else who might be in the home — could possibly have a weapon.

"She ran out after me and began punching and scratching (me)," McGillis wrote, "trying to grab the phone out of my hand. I began screaming as loud as I could, hoping someone, somewhere might hear me. I still had my car keys in my hand, so I set off the car alarm."

After fighting with the woman, in a struggle for the phone and the keys, McGillis was able to break free and get into her vehicle, though she was unable to grab hold of her cell phone.

Unable to find any neighbors, the actress flagged down the driver in front of her by flashing her lights and honking her horn.

"Too shorten this ever-long story, she was apprehended," McGillis wrote. "I'm alright, (but) scratched and bruised. I feel very thankful it turned out well."

Laurence Marie Dorn was arrested at the home on charges of second-degree burglary, interference with emergency communication, assault and battery, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor stalking.

In a later post, McGillis explained that Dorn had broken into the home through the garage window and distracted McGillis' three dogs by throwing food all over the kitchen floor.

"I feel heartache for ... the little girl that was with her," McGillis added. "Mental illness takes many hostages."
