PEORIA, Ariz. — Police say a man who was shot by officers near a Peoria Walmart Monday night died from his injuries in a hospital Tuesday.
The shooting happened near 79th and Peoria avenues around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Police say they received a call from a Walmart employee who said the man stole a bottle of milk.
Police identified him as 20-year-old Michael John Stout of Peoria on Tuesday.
According to police, Stout was confronted by police outside the store. They say their police cars were in park when the first officer was exiting his vehicle and Stout immediately fired multiple rounds in his direction, striking the officer’s vehicle. That officer and a backup officer fired several rounds at Stout who was struck and fell to the ground.
Stout was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
No bystanders and no officers were injured during the incident, Peoria police said.
