MIAMI — A search is underway for a 66-year-old woman who reportedly fell overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship off The Bahamas on Tuesday night.

It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. when the Allure of the Seas ship was about 17 miles north of Nassau, according to CBS News.

The U.S. Coast Guard said it sent an HC-144 airplane crew and an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from Air Station Miami to help the Royal Bahamas Defense Force with the search.

Authorities have not identified the woman at this time. Details on how the woman went overboard have also not been released.

"We are also providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time," a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in a statement to CBS News Miami. "To respect the privacy of our guest's family, we have no additional details to share."

Last year, a passenger on Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas went overboard while the cruise ship was heading to Singapore, officials told CBS News at the time. In separate incident in 2023, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship passenger went overboard on a trip from to Hawaii from Australia.
