'Take Our Border Back' convoy to drive through Yuma this weekend

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office said it is aware that the group, Take Our Border Back, would be passing through the area.

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. — A convoy that is driving across part of the United States protesting for stricter border policies is expected to be in Yuma, Arizona, over the weekend.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office said it is aware that the group, Take Our Border Back, would be passing through the area.

"Organizers of the convoy have met with local law enforcement agencies to try to minimize the impact to the community and express their rally will be peaceful," the sheriff's office said.

The convoy is expected in Yuma on Feb. 3, with some drivers arriving the day prior, the sheriff's office said.

The group was in Beaumont, Texas, on Wednesday.

12News's sister station KBMT reported dozens of drivers in the convoy, which started in Virginia Beach, then rolled through Alabama and later Baton Rouge.

When KBMT spoke to the group, they said their goal was to shed light on the number of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally through Texas.

“I took an oath to protect the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. That oath doesn't expire. And I'm here to protect, and serve my country, till the day I die, “ supporter and Army Veteran Veronica Suri told KBMT.

The sheriff's office urged people to be aware of traffic issues associated with the convoy, saying it "may bring a large number of people and traffic to our area."
