Sheriff: More than 370,000 fentanyl pills found inside truck at Arizona border

The sheriff's office said a U.S. citizen has been arrested after a large amount of pills was found concealed in their pickup truck at a port of entry.

DOUGLAS, Ariz. — More than 370,000 fentanyl pills were seized last week at the Douglas Port of Entry after law enforcement officials found the illicit drugs concealed in the bed of a pickup truck.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office said a U.S. citizen was arrested after Homeland Security agents found about 55 kilograms of fentanyl pills in their vehicle as the suspect was attempting to pass through the border.

On Jan. 12, the suspect was trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico and was stopped after customs officials noticed "anomalies" with the bed of the person's truck, CCSO said.

During a closer inspection, officials uncovered the large haul of fentanyl pills stored in the bed of the truck.

“Every pill that is taken off the street is a life saved," Sheriff Mark Dannels said in a statement. "We work in a collective effort between all of our local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety of our citizens in Cochise County and ultimately throughout the United States."
