Who won the Arizona Senate race?

Hours after polls closed, the race remains too close to call.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Senate race between Democrat Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Martha McSally was one of the most-talked about races in the country in the 2018 midterm election.

DECISION 2018: ELECTION DAY RECAP

The tightly-contested race received national attention over the past few months with talks before Election Day putting the red state of Arizona in a league with other battleground states like of Ohio and Florida.

McSally is a celebrated Air Force veteran and was the first American woman to fly in combat. Sinema would become the first Democratic senator elected in Arizona in 30 years and the first openly bisexual senator.

As of Wednesday morning at 6:30 a.m., the race remained too close to call. But McSally holds a one point lead over Sinema.

It is very possible that we won't know the winner for days.

Regardless of who wins, Arizona will elect its first female U.S. Senator, who will join Jon Kyl in representing the state.

Kyl was appointed to serve in the Senate by Gov. Doug Ducey in September following the death of longtime Arizona Sen. John McCain.
