Prescott City Council passes motion asking for Rep. David Stringer's resignation

After the Republican was caught on tape saying African-Americans "don't blend in" the city council voted 6-1 for him to vacate his seat in the state legislature.

The Prescott City Council passed a motion asking for Rep. David Stringer's resignation 6 to 1 Tuesday following the Republican's most recent racist remarks.

The state representative was caught on tape saying African-Americans "don't blend in," and calling non-native English speakers a burden on taxpayers at political history lecture at Arizona State University.

Stringer has since been under fire from Arizona's GOP.

“Representative Stringer’s comments are vile and won’t be tolerated,” said Speaker-elect Rusty Bowers in a news release last week.

This is not the first time Stringer has been asked to resign. Following a viral video clip in which Stringer was recorded calling immigration an existential threat to the United States and saying "there aren’t enough white kids to go around" in Arizona's public schools, the Arizona Republican party called for his resignation in June. Stringer did not resign and was re-elected in November.

Stringer held a press conference in June at Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles where he did not apologize for his comments and instead said his comments were misconstrued.

Stringer also has a history with flirting with racist and white nationalist language in his private and public speech, including references to "blood and soil."

Stringer has not yet made a public comment on the city council's passed motion.
