CHICAGO — With the Republican National Convention at a close and Biden dropping out of the race, all eyes are shifting to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
Delegates for the Democratic Party are expected to officially nominate Democratic candidates for the 2024 election at the DNC. There are also often speakers at the convention, though the list of participants for this year's convention has not been released, according to an article posted by TIME.
With President Joe Biden's announcement to drop out of the race on Sunday and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, the DNC will be the event to watch in the presidential race.
When is the Democratic National Convention?
The DNC will take place in Chicago at the United Center from August 19 to 22 at the United Center.
What happens to the DNC now that Biden has dropped out?
Biden won almost all of the Democratic party's 4,000-plus delegates with his state victories earlier in the year, but those delegates will now have to cast their vote for a new candidate.
A party’s presumptive presidential nominee has never stepped out of the race so close to the election. The closest parallel would be President Lyndon Johnson who, besieged by the Vietnam War, announced in March 1968 that he would not seek another term.
Harris, 59, appeared to be the natural successor, in large part because she is the only candidate who can directly tap into the Biden campaign’s war chest, according to federal campaign finance rules.
